Reflexology is a healing art that uses the manipulation of points/reflexes on the feet, hands and ears that correspond to every part, gland, & organ of the body. Palpation and pressure on these reflexes causes the release excess stress, tension and congestion from the corresponding areas in the body. As blood flows in, nutrients are transported in, waste is removed, balance is returned. This brings on relaxation and revitalizes energy. It contributes positively towards achieving harmony on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels.
The history of reflexology
The history of reflexology can be traced back to ancient times. Archeological evidence points to ancient reflexology medical practices in Egypt (2330 BCE), China (2704 BCE) and Japan (690 CE).

Reflexology began to emerge in the west during the 19th century with European and Russian research into the nervous system and reflex e.g., Pavlov. It was not called "reflexology" until 1917, when Vladimir Bekterev, a Russian neurologist and psychiatrist, coined the phrase.
The ideas of reflex use for health improvement was brought to American in 1909 by Dr. William Fitzgerald, an eye-ear and nose specialist from Connecticut. Physiotherapist Eunice Ingham is credited with developing a system of reflex areas by 1938.
In the East, ancient Chinese techniques were re-discovered in the 1980s and have spread throughout Asia.
